Ingredients for the Tzatziki:

  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed into a paste
  • 240 ml Greek yoghurt
  • 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped

preparation

Step 1: Make the marinade for the gyros

  • In a large bowl, combine the juice of 2 lemons, olive oil, garlic cloves and 4 tsp The Spice Club Gyros seasoning mix.
  • Add the unseasoned shawarma meat to the marinade and make sure all pieces are well covered. Cover the bowl and let the meat marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2: Prepare the tzatziki

  • Grate the cucumber and drain in a sieve to remove excess water.
  • Mix the grated cucumber with the Greek yoghurt, lemon juice, garlic paste, 1 tsp olive oil, salt (optional), pepper and parsley in a bowl. Put the tzatziki in the fridge until use.

Step 3: Prepare the meat

  • Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the marinated shawarma meat and fry for 8-10 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 4: Prepare the fries or sweet potato fries

  • Preheat the oven and prepare the fries or sweet potato fries according to the instructions on the package.
  • Place them on a baking sheet and bake until crispy.

Step 5: Serving

  • Briefly heat the naan breads in the oven or in a dry frying pan.
  • Serve the fried gyros meat on the naan breads, garnish with tomato slices, onion rings and a generous spoonful of tzatziki.
  • Add the crispy fries or sweet potato fries as a side dish.

Enjoy your meal!
